World War Z didn't bomb but was taught a lesson from the Monsters

Amazingly World War Z posted good weekend sales and the only reason I say amazingly is because it just seems to have too higher expectations with it the trailers are filled with hundreds of zombies and of course it comes with the expectations that comes with such a huge star that is Brad Pitt. It would also seem that it has avoided the zombie over kill which has to be reaching it's limits as over the past few years there has been a constant stream of zombie based film and TV. Although it reached good figures over the weekend the top spot has gone to the long awaited Monsters Inc. sequel. Although it's said not to be as good as the first one, which most sequels aren't it still looks enjoyable, and to be honest the first one wasn't an instant hit with me and took me a couple of watches to really enjoy it, and is a nice change to the blockbuster action movies which we have seen plenty of just recently, which may also play a part as to why Monsters University in getting the top spot as people might just be looking for a break/change, that being said Man of Steel still manage to take third spot and has surely done enough for it to be deemed a success and to re-energise the Superman franchise.

Iron Man 3

It's hard to make a successful sequel in movies as most film fans are too often aware, and even harder to make a successful trilogy, but what happens if you are trying to follow the first two Iron Man films which in their own right were massive films and then The Avengers film which was one of the biggest films of 2012 the response is hinted at below in the latest trailer for Iron Man 3. The only question you have to ask yourself is how big/impressive can Marvel make a film. It looks good and has to be a film to watch in April.

Oscars Fall Out

With Oscar night over and the goody bags listed on ebay it’s time to pull the show apart or so it would seem if you read other sites, as I do. Instead of people reporting on the awards themselves, like D-D Lewis winning a historic hat-trick or Argo the film they tried to ignore (or was that just the Director they tried to ignore) winning best picture most seem to want to focus on Seth Macfarlane. Even after delivering great ratings it still wasn’t good enough for some and no wonder he has said no thanks to doing it again. It makes you wonder what people expected, the poor guy was hired to do a job and was hired for who and what he was, it’s not like no one knew who he was or what he was likely to do. If you want Billy Crystal you hire Billy Crystal. It should be about the awards, the gags and show tunes etc yeah make it entertaining but it’s been such a good year of movies and a diverse year with studios taking more risks it seems such a shame to focus on the wrong thing, and the fact is he did an ok job you cant blame the bloke for doing what he does best and is popular because of it. I say let the people decide and they did end of story, would I want him doing it every year maybe not but if you don't take a risk nothing changes and at the end of the day it’s an awards show so until world poverty is solved theres more important things in life. Congrats to the winners but the real winners are us the viewers and hopefully the studios will continue to take risks and that this year proved you can still have the big blockbusters like The Avengers but also room for a historic drama or a musical.

J.J. Abrams to direct Star Wars 7

So as most people are aware by now J.J. Abrams is going to direct the next Star Wars, and as long as he doesn’t send Luke back in time to kill Yoda and negate the francise you grew up with everything should be ok, as annoyingly as it is he does make good stuff even for the fans that still haven’t forgiven him on the way he ended Lost have to agree he is pretty dam good. I still wish he hadn’t blown up Vulcan and wiping out the Next Gen, Deep Space etc timeline regardless on how the good the film turned out.

Olympus Has Fallen

It has been described as The West Wing on speed but in my opinion it looks more like Die Hard on speed and as long as they don't have Gerard Butler jumping onto fighter jets and throwing cars at helicopters that cant be a bad thing. Don't get me wrong Die Hard is a classic but once you develop a character then get them to do stuff they haven't done in the past just seems weird. It looks like a good old fashioned action movie which if they pull it off then fantastic but action movies are tricky to get right but having Morgan Freeman in it is a good start. High hopes for this one a good line up for the cast and a story we might have seen before but with a twist, it looks good. Hopefully White House Down due later this year starring Channing Tatum wont be the same/similar story line because I feel Olympus Has Fallen will out do it in the box office unless it can offer something different.

Clerks 3

Kevin Smith's Last Film

It seems fitting that Kevin Smith is going to bow out of Directing films (but not making films ref smod co pictures) where it all began. It has been announced that there is going to be a Clerks 3 film. It was understood that Hit Somebody would be Smith's last film but as a Kevin Smith fan I'm happy how fate has intervened and it now seems that Hit Somebody will now be turned into a mini-series rather then a two part film. So lots to look forward to for Kevin Smith fans and a great sign off for Randell and Dante. Planned for release in 2014 it will mark 20 years from where it all began, and what a 20 years it has been from the films (good/bad) to podcasts to live shows it has to be asked has any individual (with the help from his team) produced more entertainment and he isn't stopping yet, for a slacker that man aint' half busy. Heres for another 20 years (hopefully even more)
